Costa Rica

Together, Planting A Forest.

Costa Rica, a crown jewel of biodiversity, boasts over 10,000 species of flora and 500,000 fauna. With your support, we will continue to appreciate the beauty that this rich coast has to offer. Learn more

With your help, we will:

  • Recover populations of endangered tree species
  • Introduce agroforestry methods to local communities
  • Create an elevational corridor for species to adapt to future climates
  • Not only does Costa Rica's forests support a vast amount of wildlife, it also provides ample exploration opportunities for locals and tourists alike to appreciate the wonders of the rich coast. Opportunity awaits to recover populations of endangered tree species, and create climate corridors for climate change biodiversity adaptation, while also introducing agroforestry methods to local communities.
  • We are proud to be collaborating with wonderful partners that have started to lay the groundwork for a widespread citizen science network that will enable tropical species to maintain healthy populations and migrate to survive into future climates, while also generating basic scientific information for 120 species.
  • A personalized tree certificate (see gallery) to say thanks for your donation. We'll also send you reports on our Costa Rica project, so you can track the impact your trees are having on the community and environment.
  • Our Costa Rica projects will focus on planting a variety of lowland trees (Pleodendron costarricense), highland trees (Almendro de Montaña, Roble encino), and even mangroves (Rhizophora mangle).

About Costa Rica

If you've ever had the opportunity to visit - or see photos of - Costa Rica, its lush rainforests and breath-taking coastal landscapes have definitely left a mark on you.

Known for rich tropical waters with the largest tracts of old growth rainforests in Central America, Costa Rica is home to hundreds of plants and animals found nowhere else, and emblematic wildlife.

Over the course of the 1950s and after, this beautiful country lost roughly 60 percent of its forest cover. Luckily, the government has contributed to aid in reforestation since 1987, when Costa Rica was at its lowest forest cover of 21 percent. Since then, more than 50 percent of its forests have been restored to their previous glory.

There is still work to do! Donating to Costa Rica's reforestation projects means aiding in the preservation of some of our most spectacular biodiversity, fighting rapid climate change, and preserving one of the planet’s greatest natural treasures.

Why Plant Trees in Costa Rica?

Ecosystem Connectivity

Ecosystem Connectivity

Planting in Costa Rica helps stop hunting and habitat degradation, which will restore ecosystem connectivity that is vital to the survival of the lush rainforest's at-risk biodiversity.

Local Community Impact

Local Community Impact

Forest restoration provides training, educational resources, and jobs for local communities. This includes agroforestry methods to diversify production in a climate-friendly way.

Fund an Elevational Corridor

Fund an Elevational Corridor

Costa Rica aims to link two extremely diverse and biologically important regions, creating an elevational corridor to allow species to migrate and survive into future climates.
